A new budget-friendly capsule hotel has opened its doors in Málaga’s vibrant Soho district, offering over 100 beds—both single and double—at prices starting from just €35 per night. Guests share access to bathrooms and a communal kitchen, embracing a more minimalist and sociable style of travel.
Finding affordable lodging in central Málaga during the busy summer season can be a real challenge, especially in July when tourism peaks. Most city centre rooms exceed €100 per night unless you’re willing to share. But a new option has emerged that could change that.
Situated on Calle Alemania, this newly opened capsule hotel offers an economical alternative for travellers with a backpacker’s mindset. Popularised in Japan and increasingly adopted worldwide, capsule hotels provide compact, eco-friendly accommodation that maximises space and minimises cost.
Each guest books an individual capsule within a shared room—available in 8- or 16-bed layouts—with either single or double beds. Guests can choose from female-only or mixed dormitories. Every capsule includes a personal locker, charging point, and lighting for privacy and convenience. However, those with claustrophobia should approach with caution.
Beyond the capsules, the hotel provides additional lockers, a small shared kitchen, 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi, and a café serving drinks crafted by a professional barista. One recent group even booked an entire room for a hen party, highlighting the hotel’s versatility for group stays.
While the starting price is advertised at €35, rates can vary depending on the booking platform and demand. For example, beds this coming weekend are available from €45, with prices rising to €50–€90 during the popular Feria de Málaga.
Since opening earlier this month, the hotel—called Literal—has achieved near full occupancy, attracting mainly international travellers accustomed to hostel-style accommodation.
The hotel promotes its reduced environmental impact by offering “sustainable shared spaces” and semi-enclosed capsules in climate-stable dormitories. This approach aligns with the growing trend of sustainable travel.
Although capsule hotels are not entirely new to Málaga, with others already operating in La Trinidad, La Malagueta and Carretera de Cádiz, this new addition further cements the city’s place on the map for affordable and modern accommodation options.
